Spring 2021: Lockdown Exit Plan

On 22nd February the government announced their roadmap for exiting lockdown in England. This page will be updated as guidance changes.

No earlier than March 8th

  • Schools and colleges are open for all students
  • Recreation or exercise outdoors allowed with household or one other person
  • One visitor allowed for care home residents
  • Stay at home remains in place

No earlier than March 29th

  • Rule of 6 or two households allowed to socialise outdoors
  • Outdoor sports allowed
  • Work from home where possible and stay local
  • No overseas travel

No earlier than April 12th

  • Non essential retail, hairdressers, personal care, libraries, theme parks and gyms can reopen
  • Pubs and restaurants can reopen for outdoor dining and drinking (no need for substantial meal and no curfews)
  • Social distancing continues

No earlier than May 17th

  • Rule of 6 relaxed outdoors
  • Two households can mix indoors
  • Hotels, cinemas, soft play areas can reopen
  • 1000 people or half full permitted at indoors sports venues. Outdoor venues can have a capacity of 4000 or half full. 10,000 people allowed at Wembley Stadium.
  • International travel possible
  • Review of social distancing
  • Review of certification for vaccines and PCR/Lateral Flow testing for travel

No earlier than July 21st

  • All legal limits on social contact relaxed
  • Remaining hospitality outlets can reopen
  • Large events restrictions are lifted
  • Restrictions for weddings may still be in effect
