Event Health & Safety thoughts for 2025

For the Last couple of years we’ve taken the time to look back on the previous twelve months – looking at what the industry has been up to and what the events industry might bring us as we look ahead. True to form, let’s have a look and see what we think is going be the case in 2025.

Event Safety 2025

Of course, before we go any further it goes without saying that the tragic events which have taken place in both Germany and the US over the last few days lay heavy on our minds here at ESP – although neither was an ‘event’ in the traditional sense our thoughts are with those that have lost loved ones and are dealing with the aftermath of what happened.  News reports suggest that extensive preparation and consideration was given to counter terrorism measures and planning – however it remains imperative that organisers, local authorities and other agencies work carefully to mitigate and minimise the impact that attacks may have.

With the new Protect Duty legislation working its way through Parliament we await further guidance. The latest information is that the Security Industry Alliance will be responsible for the management and implementation of Protect Duty although there’s already a row brewing over funding – hopefully this won’t lead to further delays.

Sustainable and Eco-Conscious Events

As environmental concerns continue to rise, sustainability in events will be a dominant trend in 2025. Organisations such as ISLA will continue to focus on minimising impacts – recommending consideration for eco-friendly venues, using digital over paper materials, reducing waste, and offering zero-waste or plant-based catering options. Attendees will also be encouraged to use sustainable transportation to and from events, with a focus on green certifications for venues and suppliers.

Hybrid and Virtual Events Evolving

While in-person events are returning, hybrid models (mixing physical and virtual experiences) will continue to grow. Event organisers will use advanced technologies like virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and immersive environments to provide more engaging digital experiences. Virtual components will be more interactive, offering networking opportunities, live-streaming, and on-demand access to content, catering to a global audience.

AI-Driven Personalisation

Artificial intelligence (AI) will increasingly be used to personalise attendee experiences. From tailored event agendas to AI-powered matchmaking for networking, the technology will help create highly customised experiences. Chatbots will handle inquiries and guide attendees, while data-driven insights will allow for more precise event planning, ensuring a more meaningful and engaging experience for all participants.

Experience Over Information

Events in 2025 will focus more on providing memorable experiences rather than just disseminating information. Interactive elements like immersive displays, live entertainment, gamification, and sensory experiences (smell, touch, etc.) will become central. Attendees will seek deeper emotional connections, hands-on experiences, and opportunities for personal growth, rather than just sitting through presentations.

Wellness and Mental Health Integration

Mental health and wellness will be at the forefront of event design in 2025. Organisers will incorporate wellness breaks, mindfulness sessions, and stress-reducing activities such as yoga, meditation, or nature walks. Healthy food options and quiet spaces will be integrated into event environments, and event planners will prioritise creating inclusive spaces that support mental and physical well-being for all attendees.

These trends point toward a future where technology, sustainability, and personalisation shape the way events are designed and experienced.
